Field Renovations

THE PITCCH IN FOUNDATION ESTABLISHED THE FIELD RENOVATION PROGRAM TO ENSURE KIDS HAVE A SAFE AND NEW FIELD TO PLAY THE GAME. CC HAS FOND MEMORIES OF PLAYING BASEBALL WITH THE NORTH VALLEJO LITTLE LEAGUE AND AT VALLEJO HIGH SCHOOL. HE LEARNED HOW TO BECOME A MAN, BASEBALL, AND LIFE SKILLS, WHICH IS WHY THE FOUNDATION’S FIRST TWO RENOVATIONS WERE CC’S LITTLE LEAGUE FIELD (THURMOND FIELD) AND CC’S HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL FIELD, LATER RENAMED CC SABATHIA FIELD. THE FIELD RENOVATION PROGRAM HAS EXPANDED TO NEW YORK, WHERE THE FOUNDATION RENOVATED THE CLAREMONT PARK BASEBALL FIELD, HOME TO THE RONALDO PAULINO LITTLE LEAGUE.

Every child deserves a safe space to play in their community. Unfortunately, depending on your zip code, the parks and playgrounds may not be maintained regularly, are filled with litter and illegal activity, and are not conducive to the health and well-being of children. Before PitCCh In’s field renovation project, many youths would either play in the dark or their teams had to pay to be bussed into communities with better amenities and playgrounds, which would drive up costs for teams at the expense of families who were already having financial difficulties. CC and Amber, intimately familiar with that reality, chose to make a difference. Since 2008 we have renovated five fields in three cities at the cost of over two million, which supports 25 little league teams, 15 neighborhood schools, and giving countless children access to the ease and bliss of playing safely in their own neighborhoods.

CC AND AMBER WANT TO PROMOTE THE LOVE OF BASEBALL TO THE NEXT GENERATION OF YOUNG BOYS AND GIRLS. THEREFORE, WE PLAN TO RENOVATE MORE BASEBALL FIELDS IN THE FUTURE.

Quarry Field

Bronx, NY

On Saturday, June 19, 2021, NYC Parks Bronx Borough Commissioner Iris Rodriguez-Rosa joined former New York Yankees Cy Young Award-winning pitcher and World Series champion CC Sabathia and his wife Amber, and children from the local little league to cut the ribbon at the newly reconstructed baseball diamond at the Quarry Ballfields in the Bronx, dedicated to Lesandro Guzman-Feliz who tragically lost his life in June of 2018.

The project was completed with $440,000 from the PitCCh In Foundation. The renovation continues a neighborhood tradition of advocating for parks and offering additional opportunities for residents and community members to stay active.

The Quarry Ballfields in the Bronx are among hundreds of baseball diamonds in New York City managed by NYC Parks. The ballfields were last extensively renovated in 1998, which included the addition of a comfort station to the park.

St Vincent Field

At the end of June 2020, Good Tidings built a new baseball field for St. Vincent’s School for Boys, one of the oldest orphanages west of the Mississippi.  Today, this beautiful space serves as a school and licensed trauma center for boys.

In partnership with CC Sabathia and PitCCh In Foundation, Good Tidings created this new baseball field in the open land behind the school.  We poured concrete for the dugouts, spectator areas, walkways, and purchased new bleachers for game-day spectators.  The sod for this field was grown at the same farm for the baseball fields played by the SF Giants and Oakland A’s.

Claremont Baseball Field

The project was completed with $440,000 from the PitCCh In Foundation, a nonprofit organization co-founded by the Sabathia family. The renovation continues a neighborhood tradition of advocating for parks and offering additional opportunities for residents and community members to stay active.

Throughout the years, Claremont Park has expanded its facilities to accommodate the needs of its community in and throughout the surrounding neighborhoods. Some of the amenities include basketball and handball courts, two playgrounds, a spray shower, and one of the borough’s more popular outdoor pools.

CC Sabathia Field

AT Patterson Park

The PitCCh In Foundation always takes on projects that are close to home. When CC and Amber learned that the baseball field at Vallejo High School was in need of a major overhaul they took on the challenge without hesitation. CC has many special memories on the baseball field at Patterson Park, including one where scouts came to see him play and dream of what was to come.

This field is home to Apache Baseball and the site of many home runs, no-hitters, and memorable games. The PitCCh In Foundation once again partnered with the Good Tidings Foundation, and with permission from the Vallejo City Unified School District, recently completed the three-month refurbishment.

Over $160,000 went into the effort that called for new playing surfaces, new bullpens, installation of a new state-of-the-art scoreboard, and new training amenities (including batting cage and upgrades to practice field). The field is located on the back northern corner of the campus and was originally constructed in 1972.

The last renovation to the field was in the mid 1990’s, and was led by then head baseball coach, Abe Hobbs.

Professional baseball players such as Chris Smith, Ivory Jones, Joe Thurston, and Caleb Natov all played on this field. The renovation ensured that future generations of student-athletes can continue to play the game of baseball and represent the red and white.

"We are filled with great pride when baseball officials, visiting teams, fans and the community note that our high school stadium rivals many college stadiums in design, appearance and amenities… The greatest impact that it has had to our school and student population is that it has instilled pride and increased school spirit at a time when many of our students are experiencing personal family challenges during these tough economic times."

Athletic Director, Vallejo High School

Thurmon Field

Vallejo, CA

CC spent much of his young life learning the skills and techniques of baseball with the North Vallejo Little League (NVLL) at Thurmon Field. Both he and his mom, Margie, spent countless hours at the field, which also served as a community hub. In early 2000, after visiting the Thurmon Field and seeing his once beloved field in disarray CC and Amber were motivated to renovate the field and promote the love of baseball to a new generation of young boys and girls.

The PitCCh In Foundation undertook a $125,000 field renovation project in partnership with the Good Tidings Foundation. The field took approximately two months to break ground, which included the addition of a state of the art sprinkler system, turf, dugout and scoreboard. Countless hours from volunteers in the community helped to make the renovated field a reality.

North Vallejo Little League commemorated the opening of the new Thurmon Field with a special ceremony with over 400 people in attendance. It was a special moment for CC, as he played a key role from the start to Opening Day by providing guidance on all the planning meetings, visiting the progress of the field, and being part of Opening Day. Since the renovation of the field, Little League sign-ups have gone from 55 kids and 3 teams to over 250 kids registered and 16 teams.
